Should I worry about skin cancer?
You should certainly be aware that skin cancer is the most common cancer here in Ireland, with over 13 000 new cases diagnosed each year. This is why we encourage our patients to take note of any new or changing skin lesions and not to ignore any skin spots. We also recommend that all adult patients consider having annual skin checks. If in doubt, check it out!

All of our GPs are trained to recognise sinister skin lesions, and will arrange removal or referral
to a dermatology colleague if necessary. A dedicated consultation should be booked in order to
perform a comprehensive skin check.

In addition, please be "sun smart”: wear sunscreen even on cloudy days, wear appropriate clothing like a sunhat and sunglasses, and definitely avoid sun beds. Further advice on skin cancer and skin protection can be found at http://www.cancer.ie/reduce-your-risk/sunsmart
