What's the treatment process?
People may start using small amounts of codeine containing medication for pain relief, but for some, this increases to regular daily use. Most people do not know that codeine can be addictive and only realise this when they try and struggle to stop taking the tablets.
Stopping codeine medication can be difficult for some people.
Many codeine based tablets contain other pain-relieving medicines. Overuse of these medicines could cause damage to your Kidneys (Ibuprofen) or Liver (Paracetamol).
We have a new medical treatment in Ireland to help people stop taking codeine.
We are working with GPs and Pharmacists to offer access, advice and treatment to people who are struggling to stop using codeine.
We are here to help!
