Urgent Care Centres – Vhi SwiftCare Clinics
Vhi SwiftCare Clinics are Ireland’s first walk-in urgent care centre’s and are a joint initiative between Centric Health and the Vhi, Ireland’s largest private health insurer. Since the first Clinic opened in November 2005, the Clinics have provided rapid assessment, treatment and advice to over 58,000 patients who suffered unexpected urgent illness or injury that does not pose a serious danger to their health but require urgent treatment. Many of these injuries and illnesses could only otherwise have been managed in secondary care A & E facilities.
The Clinics in Balally, Swords and Cork are open from 8am – 10pm, and DCU from 10am – 9pm. All clinics are open 365 days a year and all patients are assessed by one of the Clinic’s medical practitioners on arrival with the aim to ensure that minor injury or illness are dealt with within 1 hour. All clinics have on-site radiology services.
The types of minor illness and injuries treated include sprains and possible breaks, minor burns, cuts requiring stitches, sports injuries, minor eye and ear conditions and other general medical conditions. Additional services include Paediatric and Orthopaedic Consultant services, Sports medicine specialists, physiotherapists, minor surgery and ultrasound services.
The Clinics work with local GP’s to ensure patients receive results quickly and that patients who are treated are referred back to the care of their own GP with clear information of the treatment that has taken place.
Vhi SwiftCare's first Clinic opened in November 2005 at Balally in Dundrum Dublin 14, the second in Dublin City University in June 2006 and the third in Swords Co Dublin in September 2007. A 4th Vhi SwiftCare Clinic opened afterwards in Cork on Monday 13th of October 2008
